Extraordinary New Old Stock Example - Original Owner
Family
Today's offering is something that virtually never appears in
the marketplace: a true, exceedingly rare untouched
new-old-stock Patek Philippe men's wristwatch, preserved exactly
as it left the factory decades ago.
It is accompanied by its original hang tag and box, and its
original factory case back sticker is still perfectly intact on
the case back. This is not merely a well-kept vintage Patek. The
original factory caseback sticker remains perfectly intact on
the back of the watch. The original hang tag is still present.
The original Patek Philippe box accompanies it. Together, these
elements place this watch in a category that most collectors
will never encounter firsthand.
It's more than a barn find - it's like a finding a new, undriven
car with only delivery miles on the odometer in a barn.
We acquired it from the son of the original owner. He said that
his father had purchased it new and then, for reasons lost to
time, chose to store it in a safe unworn. Year after year,
decade after decade, it remained unworn - protected and
undisturbed until now. The provenance matters explains what your
eyes immediately see: untouched surfaces, uncompromised lines,
and the almost surreal feeling of a vintage Patek that presents
as if it never left the jeweler's counter.
The result is a Patek Philippe that presents today exactly as it
would have when first sold: sharp case lines, untouched
surfaces, and a level of originality that cannot be recreated or
restored. Once a watch like this is worn, that state is gone
forever.
It is a very fine and handsome ref. 3503 square Gondolo.
The Gondolo line has long been one of Patek Philippe's canvas
for pure design. Where round dress watches often whisper, the
Gondolo speaks in clean geometry: a rectilinear case, a dial
reduced to the essentials, and balanced proportions.
For this reference, the aesthetic is all disciplined elegance -
thin baton markers, slender hands, and a minimalist dial that
lets the architecture of the watch do the talking. It's the kind
of restraint that only works when the details are done well.
Powering the watch is Patek Philippe's ultra-thin hand-wound
Calibre 175 - one of the movements that made pieces like this
possible in the first place. This illustrious movement was
awarded the prestigious "Geneve Quality Seal" and this example
is stamped in two places with it.
The appeal of the Ref. 3503 is inseparable from that
engineering: a case that sits close to the wrist, wears with
effortless comfort, and delivers that unmistakable "ultra-thin"
presence. It's vintage Patek being refined - less about
decoration, more about mastery.
We have timed it on a machine that simulates it being worn on
the wrist. It is keeping very accurate time.
Thankfully, when other dealers and collectors asked the son who
sold it to us to open it to see the inside, he wouldn't them.
The only time that watch has every been opened since it left the
factory is a single instance when the seller had it
authenticated. Since the watch has never been serviced since the
leaving the factory we chose not to service it, but we can if
you would like - please inquire. We have also left the patina on
it, which could easily be wiped off if desired.
The watch retains its unworn original strap and buckle,
completing the full "as-sold" presentation that collectors
prize. The original factory caseback sticker remains intact, a
detail that is typically removed within moments of purchase and
almost never seen decades later.
As mentioned, accompanying the watch is its original hang tag
and box. The watch was stored away in its box, so the box is in
virtually perfect condition as well.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international
warranty on the movement and its function and a full-page custom
printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.
This example offers the exceedingly rare opportunity to
experience a vintage Patek Philippe as if time itself paused the
moment it was sold.
