CONNOISSEUR OF TIME SELLS RARE TIMEPIECE TO OMEGA MUSEUM

Atlanta, GA – December 10, 2005 – It’s not just closeout sporting goods, dusty gizmos, and Roseville pottery that can be found at auction on eBay these days. As eBay’s worldwide presence has grown exponentially, so has its number of discriminating buyers.

Increasingly these buyers have been given the opportunity to bid on rare artifacts that used to be available only to a small group of private collectors. Several of eBay’s auctions have garnered media attention including the sale of a 1909 Honus Wagner baseball card, Shoeless Joe Jackson’s “Black Betsy” baseball bat, and most recently, the original Hollywood sign that kept watch over the Los Angeles hills for fifty years.

One of the discriminating buyers browsing eBay this week was the Omega Museum who won an auction for a rare, early waterproof Omega wristwatch. Sold by Connoisseur of Time, Inc. (eBay username Connoisseur_of_Time) an Atlanta based vintage watch company, the rare Omega Marine Standard, one of Omega’s first waterproof models, was fitted with a very rare, yellow dial and exceptional original 'Trident' hands. The combination of these rare characteristics made the watch quite a special piece.

The wristwatch was purchased for display in the Omega Museum in Bienne, Switzerland by Marco Richon, the museum's curator. The Omega museum was created in December 1983 to illustrate and perpetuate the historical highlights of the famous Swiss brand.

The seller, Connoisseur of Time, Inc. just recently began offering their fine watches through eBay. According to its founder, Paul Hoyt, the company is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of important timepieces and focuses 90% of their efforts toward the vintage watch collector market. Commenting on the sale Hoyt stated, “I am extremely pleased that the piece was purchased for museum display so it can be enjoyed by watch connoisseurs and historians worldwide.”
